Urinary Tract Infection
Bacteria can sometimes travel from outside the body up the urethra to the urinary bladder. Sometimes, these bacteria can even travel as far as the kidneys. Most of urinary tract infections are caused by E.coli bacteria transferred from the anal region to the urethra. If left untreated, these infections can cause serious damage to the kidneys. About 50 percent of the infections that patients contract while in the hospital are Urinary Tract Infections. If a person experiences pain during urination, they should immediately consult their doctor. Women are more likely to contract Urinary Tract Infection than men because their urethra is shorter and it is easier for bacteria to be transferred from the anal region to the urethra.
